Ippally Theyyam is a very rare theyyam performed during the annual theyyam kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod region of Kerala. As per information, the theyyam is dedicated a person who was alive. Ippally Theyyam story is that of Ippally, a Pulayan, was shot and killed by an army commander, Kolamudi Manna, who was on his way to participate in a war. He found Ippally obstructing his way and thought he was a bad omen. On hearing, Ippally getting killed, Azhikottarachan Kurikkal arrived on the scene and objected to the killing. He was also shot and killed. The two people later were given the form of theyyam for their sacrifice.
Ippally Theyyam shows the bond and friendship beyond the walls of caste. The theyyam is performed by Pulayar.
They theyyams are worshiped for peace and prosperity and to overcome enemies.
