Dandan Theyyam – Story – Information

Dandan Theyyam is a rare theyyam performed during the annual theyyam kaliyattam thira festival in Kannur and Kasaragod region of Kerala. As per information, Dandan is the son of Goddess Parvati and Shiva. Dandan Theyyam is that of him becoming egoistic under the influence of his immense strength. His demonic behavior worried Shiva. Goddess Parvati was saddened by seeing her husband anxious and two tear drops fell from her eyes. To keep Dandan under control, two goddesses appeared from the tears of Goddess Parvati.

On seeing the ferocious form of the twin goddesses, Dandan shed his demonic behavior and followed dharma.

Dandan Theyyam is performed at the Kannur Mattannur Naduvanad Kottiyurnhal Bhagavathy Kavu temple and Kannur Koodali Thazhathu Veedu temple.
