Daiva Chekon is a very rare theyyam that is performed during the annual theyyam thira kaliyattam festival in Kannur region of Kerala. As per information, this is a twin theyyam and is associated with war. Daiva Chekon story is that of an individual showing exemplary courage and defeating enemies and in the process getting killed. In order to commemorate the courage and strength of the person, theyyam is performed annually.
The theyyam is offered prayers to overcome fear of enemies. It is also worshiped by those who have fear of darkness and ghosts and have trouble in sleeping.
Daiva Chekon theyyam is annually performed at the Cherukunnu Sree Keezhara Koolom Bhagavathy temple during Kumbha Masam (Kumbham 2 to 7) (February 14 to February 19).
