Chuzhali Bhagavathy Theyyam is a popular theyyam performed in select temples, kavu and tharavadu in Kannur region during the annual theyyam, kaliyattam and thira festival. As per information, Chuzhali Bhagavathy is the kuldevi or kuladevata of Chuzhali swaroopam. As per Chuzhali Bhagavathy theyyam story, she came to the region along with Goddess Annapoorneshwari on a small boat. She got the name Chuzhali as she settled down first in a temple at Chuzhali.
Chuzhali Bhagavathy theyyam blesses devotees with peace and prosperity. She is also believed to cure contagious diseases. She appears in a ferocious form holding a sword to protect the wealth and life of her devotees. She is also propitiated to defeat enemies.
It is believed that she was propitiated by the Chuzhali swaroopam or kingdom to achieve victory during wars.
