Cheriya Bhagavathy Theyyam is a very popular theyyam performed in numerous kavu, tharavadu (homes) and temples in Kannur and Kasaragod regions during the annual theyyam thira and kaliyattam festival. As per information, she is the sister of Goddess Bhagavathy (Shakthi – Kali – Durga). She appears to help her elder sister or to protect her devotees. As per Cheriya Bhagavathy story, she defeats demons and protects the wealth and life of her devotees. She also drives away harmful supernatural beings.

She appears in a ferocious form holding a shield and a sword. She blesses devotees with peace and prosperity. She helps devotee recover lost items.
