Appakallan theyyam is a very rare theyyam seen during the annual theyyam – thira – kaliyattam festival in Kannur district, Kerala. This is also a rare theyyam performed by a small boy. As per information, the boy is a divine being who steals appam (traditional bread) from homes. As per story, the Appakalla theyyam helps the houses from where he steals the appam. He also performs miracles.
Appakallan theyyam is worshipped by childless couples for children. The little divine being is also worshipped for peace and prosperity.
The theyyam is performed at Kannur Anjarakkandi Kakkothu Kakkunnath Bhagavathy temple.
