Kunharu Kurathi Amma Theyyam (കുഞ്ഞാറു കുറത്തി തെയ്യം) is believed to be a manifestation of Goddess Parvati. As per information, she protects her devotees through all the seasons. As per her Kunharu Kurathi theyyam story, she resides in the kottilakam (കൊട്ടിലകo) of the tharavadu.
Always Kunharu Kurathi Amma theyyam is performed first in a Kavu and Tharavadu. She is treated as mother by females of the houses and kavu in which the theyyam is performed. The female members of the house prepare an elaborate sadhya for the theyyam.
കുറത്തിക്ക് മുന്നില്‍ കൊടിയിലയിട്ട് അവിലും മലരും വിളമ്പി, മറ്റൊരിലയില്‍ പുത്തരി കുത്തിയ ചോറും ഇറച്ചിയും മീന്‍കറിയും പിന്നെ പച്ചടി,കിച്ചടി,ഓലന്‍,കാളന്‍,അച്ചാര്‍ പിന്നെ പപ്പടവും വിളമ്പി, ഇളനീര്‍കുടങ്ങളും വെള്ളിക്കിണ്ടിയില്‍ പാലും വെച്ച് തറവാട്ടമ്മ കുറത്തിയുടെ “പാരണക്ക്” ഭാഗവാക്കാകുന്നു പൈതങ്ങള്‍ .
- വേലരുടെ ഒരു തെയ്യമാണ് കുറത്തി.
- എന്നാല്‍ കോപ്പാളന്‍, പുലയന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ സമുദായക്കാരും കുറത്തി തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടാറുണ്ട്.
- കണ്ണൂരിലെ പയ്യന്നൂരിലും മൗവ്വേനിയിലുമുള്ള ചില തറവാടുകളിലെ അങ്കണങ്ങളിൽ തുലാമാസം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നതോടെ ഈ തെയ്യം കെട്ടിയാടുന്നു.
- പാര്‍വതി ദേവിയുടെ അവതാരമാണ് കുറത്തി. അനേകം കുറത്തിമാരില്‍ പ്രധാനികളായവര്‍ ഇവരാണ് കുഞ്ഞാര്‍ കുറത്തി, പുള്ളിക്കുറത്തി, മലങ്കുറത്തി, തെക്കന്‍ കുറത്തി, സേവക്കാരി എന്നിവര്‍.
