Food Offering To Mangal Or Angarak – Mars God In Hinduism

Mangal or Angarak, the Mars God in Hinduism, is one of the Navagrahas – the nine celestial bodies. The navagrahas are propitiated for overcoming bad luck in life and to solve horoscope related problems. Food offering or bhog or naivedya to Mars is part of the pujas and rituals. The main food offering to Mars is sweet made of ghee and milk. Any sweet offering made from rice sprinkled with red flowers is the ideal bhog or naivedyam to Mangal.

The color associated with Mars or Mangal or Angarak is red or flame, the flowers offered are champak and the main grain offering toor dal.

The other food offerings are red masoor dal, toor dal, raw sugar, jaggery, pomegranate (or other red color fruits), red chili and salt.
