Arya Bhagavathy theyyam is a rare theyyam performed during the annual theyyam – thira – kaliyattam festival in Kannur and Kasaragod region of Kerala. The theyyam is mainly performed in temples tharavadu and kavu. As per information, the theyyam is associated with Goddess Shakti. As per Arya Bhagavathy theyyam story, she is believed to have arrived on a boat to the region from the land of gods and goddesses. Her theyyam are performed in those places wherever she visited.
Arya Bhagavathy theyyam blesses devotees with peace and prosperity. She is also believed to cure contagious diseases. She appears in a ferocious form.
Please note that there are many theyyams having the name 'Arya' and many of them do not have a theyyam of its own.
