Moozhikkara Nidumboyil Pookutti Chathan Temple – Kaliyattam – Theyyam Festival

Moozhikkara Vadakke Nidumboyil Pookuttichattan temple (Nidumboyil Pookutti Chathan temple)  is located at Moozhikkara near Kodiyeri, Thalassery, in Kannur district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Kuttichattan – a benevolent and trouble maker deity worshipped in many parts of Kerala. The annual kaliyattam – theyyam festival in the temple is held for two days in Malayalam Makara Masam – Makaram 10 and Makaram 11 (January 24 and January 25).



This is a small temple with a chathura sreekovil. There are no other major structures here. Subsidiary deities have their designated places on square platforms within the temple compound.

The theyyams that are part of the annual Kaliyattam festival here are Pookkuttichathan theyyam, Manthana Pothi theyyam, Karanavar theyyam, Thekkan Gulikan theyyam and Khandakarnan theyyam.

The rituals in the temple are handed down by family tradition and have Shaiva influence. Kuttichathan has both Shaiva and Vaishnava tradition and the tradition followed depends on the family history.

The shrine observes various other important rituals. Vishu is an important festival here.

ശ്രീ പൂക്കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ പ്രധാന മൂർത്തിയായ് കുടികൊള്ളുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം ഉത്തര മലബാറിലെ അതിപുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്.. എല്ലാം വർഷവും മകരം 10, 11 തീയ്യതികളിൽ തിറമഹോത്സവം നടത്തി വരുന്നു.. തീചാമുണ്ഡി, ഗുളികൻ, കണ്ഠാകർണ്ണൻ, പോതി, കാരണവർ എന്നീ തെയ്യങ്ങളും കെട്ടിയാടപ്പെടുന്നു.
