Kandankary Kavu Devi temple is located at Kandamkari or Kandamkary near Champakulam in Alappuzha district, Kerala. The main deity in this ancient temple is Kavilamma – Mother Goddess Bhagavathy. The annual Thrikartika festival held in Malayalam Vrischika masam (November – December) is of great importance in the temple.
As per local history, Kunchan Nambiar originator
of Ottamthullal art form is resided in this this temple for a long time. While
he was staying there, he composed several songs for Ottanthullal.
The temple has a chathura sreekovil,
chuttambalam, namaskara mandapam, temple pond, kodimaram and shrines of upa
devatas. This is a typical Kerala style ancient temple.
The annual festival in the temple is
famous for ezhunnallathu, melam, traditional performing art forms of Kerala and arattu
ceremony.

അദ്ദേഹം
കുടമാളൂര്‍ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന കാലത്ത് കുമാരനല്ലൂര്‍ ക്ഷേത്ത്രത്തില്‍ ഭജനം ഇരുന്നു ദേവീപ്രീതി വരുത്തി ഉപാസിച്ചു ദേവീ ചൈതന്യം വാല്‍ക്കണ്ണാടിയില്‍ ആവാഹിച്ചു സ്വകുടുംബത്തിലെ
അറപ്പുരയില്‍ വെച്ച് പൂജിച്ചു വന്നു.
കാലാന്തരത്തില്‍ പൂജയും മറ്റും മുടങ്ങുകയും ചെയ്തു. അങ്ങനെ കുടുംബത്തില്‍ പല തരത്തിലുള്ള അധ:പതനം സംഭവിക്കുകയും ഉണ്ടായി. ദേവി ഈ ഇരിപ്പിടത്തില്‍ പ്രീതയായിരുന്നില്ല.

മുഹൂര്‍ത്തത്തില്‍ അറപ്പുരയില്‍ നിന്നും ചൈതന്യം ആവാഹിച്ചു ബിംബം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.
പൂജ ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായി കോട്ടയത്തുനിനടുത്തു മരിയപ്പിള്ളി എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നും ഒരു ബ്രാഹ്മണ കുടുംബത്തെ വരുത്തി കോവിലടുത്തുമടത്തില്‍ (കൊലത്തുമടം) താമസിപ്പിച്ചു. പൂജാദ്രവ്യങ്ങള്‍ ഒരുക്കുന്നതിനായി ചേര്‍ത്തലയിലെ ഒരു ഗ്രാമത്തില്‍ നിന്നും ഉണ്ണിമാരെ വരുത്തി കോവില്ച്ചേരി(കോയിച്ചേരി) യില്‍ താമസിപ്പിച്ചു. സോപാന സേവയ്ക്കായി പറൂര്‍ കുടുംബത്തെ ചുമതലപ്പെടുത്തി.
