Veer Sitaram Kanwar Balidan Diwas

Veer Sitaram Kanwar was an important but forgotten hero during the initial days of the Indian independence movement against the British. Veer Sitaram Kanwar Balidan Diwas 2024 date is October 9. Sitaram Kanwar was a tribal warrior. He had given a new direction to the divided society in the fight against the foreign rule. In the revolt of 1857, martyr Veer Sitaram Kanwar revolted in the Nimar region and got rid British rule from the region for a short period. In 2024, it is the 166th Balidan Diwas of Veer Sitaram Kanwar.

The martyrdom day of Veer Sitaram Kanwar is of great importance in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. His unfathomable courage and the unprecedented effort to unite warring groups against a common enemy is an inspiration for the people of the region.

At Dang Village, in Nimar region, during the revolt of 1857, Tribals under the strong and skillful leadership of Sitaram Kanwar defeated the British.

But the British returned back and attacked the Tribals for supporting Sitaram Kanwar. On October 9 and October 10, 1858, nearly 78 freedom fighters including Sitaram Kanwar were killed in Nimar region by the British.

The British cut the head off Veer Sitaram Kanwar and paraded it on the tip of a sword around the villages in the region. The number of villagers killed by the British for supporting Sitaram Kanwar remains unknown.

क्राँतिकारी वीर सीताराम कंवर का जन्म स्थल निमाड़ क्षेत्र में खरगोन जिले का डंग गाँव था। 
वे गोंडवाना राज्य का केन्द्र रहे जबलपुर में नायक शंकर शाह के यहाँ गुप्तचर विभाग के प्रमुख रहे। 
लेकिन सितम्बर 1857 में अंग्रेजों ने गौंडवाना का दमन कर दिया था। वीर शंकर शाह और उनके पुत्र रघुनाथ शाह को तोप के मुँह पर बाँध कर उड़ाया था। 
गौंडवाना राज्य के दमन के बाद वीर सीताराम कंवर अपनी टोली के साथ निमाड़ गये थे। यहां उन्होंने होल्कर राज्य में पदाधिकारी वनवासियों से संपर्क किया और 1857 की क्रांति के भूमिगत नायकों से संपर्क कर वनवासियों की टुकड़ी तैयार की। इसकी सूचना अंग्रेजों को लग गयी थी।
