Moryai Chhath Vrat

Moryai Chhath vrat in Bhadrapad month is mainly observed in North and western parts of India and is dedicated to Surya, the sun god in Hinduism. Surya Shashti Vrat 2024 date is September 9. The most important rituals involve chanting of Gayatri Mantra. The popular belief is that those devotees observing Moryai Chhath will be blessed with prosperity, happy life and healthy children. It also helps in curing diseases.

Red color times like gulal, red sandalwood, red flowers, kesar, red color clothes, red color fruits and red color sweet is offered to Surya Bhagavan on the day.

It is believed that observing Moryai Chhath will help a devotee attain results of observing Ashwamedha Yajna. It is also performed by those devotees suffering from skin diseases and eye disorders – the belief is that such people will find relief after observing the vrat.

Taking bath on the day early morning chanting Gayatri Mantra is considered highly meritorious.

An image of surya is made using lal chandan and red color offerings are made to this.

This particular mantra is chanted 108 times on the day - घृणि सूर्याय नमः

Arghya on the day is offered to Surya in a copper vessel filled with water. Kumkum and red color flower is put in the water.

Panchagavya is consumed on the day and a meal is taken without putting salt.

It is observed on the sixth day during the waxing phase of moon in Bhadrapad month as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar followed in North India.
