Thiruvatta Sreekrishna Swami Temple – Vavu Bali – Ashtami Rohini Festival

Thiruvatta Sree Krishna Swami temple is located on the banks of Meenachil River at Mariyathu near Kumaranalloor in Kottayam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Sri Krishna Bhagavan.

The temple has unique Kerala style rectangular structure. There are shrines of upa devatas.

The shrine observes various annual rituals dedicated to dead ancestors including Karkidaka Vavu Bali and Pitru Tarpanam. Bali Tharpanam is also held on various Vavu or Amavasya days in other Malayalam months.

The temple observes the annual Ashtami Rohini – Sri Krishna Jayanti – which falls in Malayalam Chingamasam is of great significance in the temple. Pujas, rituals, colorful processions and feast are part of the festivities.

Ekadashi and Thiruvonam nakshatra is of importance in the temple. The shrine observes Vishu and Ramayana Masam.
