Pakalkuri Mahavishnu Temple – Festival

Pakalkuri Mahavishnu temple is located on the banks of Ithikkara River at Pakalkury in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple is Bhagavan Vishnu. The annual festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam. The 10-day festival is famous for Gajamela (caparisoned elephant parade) on the ninth day.

This is a rare west facing Vishnu temple in Kerala. The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Vishnu, Shiva, Ganapathi, Devi and Ayyappa. The temple has chathura sreekovil, namaskara mandapam, kodimaram or flagpole and chuttambalam.

The shrine observes the annual Sri Krishna Jayanti – Gokulashtami festival in Chingamasam with procession and other traditional festivities.

The annual festival in the temple is famous for Aanayoottu, Pallivetta and Thiru Arattu. Melam, traditional performing art forms of Kerala are part of the festival.

The shrine observes various Vaishnava rituals and pujas during auspicious occasion especially during Ekadashi. The temple observes Vishu, Ramayana Masam, Thiruvonam, Navratri and Thrikarthika.
