Meditating amidst five fires is mentioned in many scriptures in Hinduism. It is mentioned in the Bala Kanda of Ramayana that King Bhageeratha performed this fierce austerity to please Brahma and to bring Ganga down to earth to offer ablution to the dead sons of King Sagara.

How To Meditate Amidst Five Fires?

Fire is lit on four sides around the spot where a person is meditating. The fifth fire is the sun above one’s head. The Tapas is performed for several thousand years.

In ancient world this fierce Tapas was performed to please Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva and to get boons from them.

Bhageeratha performed the Tapas for 1000 years before Brahma appeared before him and granted him boon.
