Kirtipur Jal Binayak Temple Nepal

Kirtipur Jal Binayak temple is located at Kirtipur in Nepal. The shrine is dedicated to Ganesha or Vinayaka. The shrine is located on the banks of Bagmati River. The deity is offered prayers to by local people for avoid water related accidents and death. Jal Binayak is also propitiated for avoiding flood and drought. Jal means water.

The murti of Jal Binayak emerges from the tip of a large boulder. The large rock and the murti are enclosed inside a three-tier pagoda style temple.

The temple is one among the four Binayak temples in the valley. The four temples houses Ganesha, who is a guardian deity. The four temples are:

  1. Jal Binayak in the southwest
  2. Ashok Binayak in the northwest
  3. Chandra Binayak in the northeast
  4. Surya Binayak in the southeast. 

The temple has numerous beautiful sculptures and wood work. There is also a metal murti of mouse, the vahana of Binayak holding a modak.
