Eroor Maramkulangara Sree Krishna Temple – Holy Well – Ritual Bath Of Babies

Eroor Maramkulangara Sree Krishna temple is located at Eroor North in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to the child form of Bhagavan Sri Krishna – popularly known as Balakrishna. A well in temple premises is considered to be holy. Water form in it used to bathe babies.

As per local belief, the murti of Krishna here is of the one who has just killed Poothana who had attempted to take the life of child Krishna by feeding him breast milk laced with poison. It is said that Yashoda, foster mother of Krishna, started crying thinking poison might have entered her baby. Bhagavan Vishnu appeared and poured water from a well on the lips of the baby. It is believed that this well is located on the premises of the Maramkulangara temple. The meaning of the ‘Maram’ is one who overcame death.

The temple belonged to Elamprakkodathu Mana. Children of any age are allowed inside the temple.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ayyappa, Anthimahakalan, Yakshi, Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Nagas.

It is believed that new born children will be blessed with good health and strength after offering worship in the temple.

Ashtami Rohini in Malayalam Chingamasam is of importance in the temple. Various pujas, rituals, procession and uriyadi are organized in the temple.

The most important days in the temple are Thursday and Sunday.

Vidyarambham is also conducted in the temple.
