Mangalam Manangottu Bhagavathi Temple – Mangalam Vela Festival

Mangalam Manangottu Bhagavathi temple is located at Mangalam in Palakkad district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy and is located near Anchumoorthi temple. The annual Vela festival in the temple is held in Malayalam Edava Masam (May – June) (Edavam 11 – usually falls on May 25).

The shrine is one among the 108 Durga temples in Kerala. This is typical Palakkad village temple and the deity faces north. The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Nagas and Sastha.

The annual festival is famous for ezhunnallathu, melam and traditional performing temple art forms. The festival begins on the day after Vishu with the koora ritual, which is held at midnight. Panchavadyam is a major highlight of the annual festival. The elephant pageantry begins at 2:00 PM on the Vela festival day and concludes at 8:00 PM. After this the famous Pandi Melam begins.
