Pazhanchira Devi Temple – Festival

Pazhanchira Devi temple is located near Ambalathara – Paravankunnu in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. The annual festival in the temple is held on Makayiram nakshatra day in Malayalam Meena Masam (March – April).

This is an ancient temple with a chathura sreekovil, chuttambalam, kavu or grove of Nagas. The sankalpam of Bhagavathi here is that of Adi Parashakti.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Chamundi, Nagaraja, Brahma Rakshas, Madan Thampuran, Navagrahas and Nagas.

The annual festival in the temple is famous for Shakti temple tantric pujas and rituals including homam, kalasabhishekam etc. Ezhunnallathu, traditional performing art forms of temples and melam are part of the annual festival.

Pongala is held during the festival period and is attended by hundreds of women devotees.

Neivilakku is the most important offering in the temple.

The temple also observes various other Devi temple festivals including Navratri with ezhuthiniruthu or Vidyarambham and Thrikarthika.

The annual Chandika homam is observed in Kanni Masam (September - October).
