Udiyankulangara Azhakikonam Bhadrakali Devi Temple – Festival – Thookam

Udiyankulangara Azhakikonam Bhadrakali Devi temple is located at Azhakikonam - Udiyankulangara – Vattavila in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The shrine is very old and is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. The annual Kumbha Bharani festival in Malayalam Kumbha Masam (February – March) is of great importance in the temple.

This is an ancient temple with a huge pond and shrines of upa devatas. The shrine has been renovated in modern style.

The annual temple is famous for Thookam ritual. The thidambu of Bhagavathy is taken atop the head of selected persons on the occasion of the festival. The annual festival is famous for unique pujas, rituals, procession, Kerala temple performing arts and melam.

The shrine observes special pujas on Ayilyam nakshatra, full moon day, Navratri with special pujas and rituals on Ashtami, Navami, Dashami (vidyarambham), Mandala kalam 41 days, Chingam 1, Thiruvonam day and Vishu.
