Palathara Durga Bhagavathi Temple – Festival

Palathara Durga Bhagavathi temple is located at Palathara – Thattamala in Kollam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga Bhagavathy. The annual Kumbha Bharani festival is famous here for ezhunellipu and caparisoned elephants.

The Upa Devata worshipped in the temple is Ganapathi.

The annual festival in the temple is famous for procession, floats, characters from Hindu puranas and epics, melam, caparisoned elephants, thalappoli, temple art forms, and pujas and rituals. The thidambu of Bhagavathi is taken out in procession during the festival. Various Tantric pujas and rituals are part of the annual festival.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil, namaskara mandapam, nalambalam and kodimaram (flag pole).

Navratri is observed with special pujas and rituals on Ashtami, Navami, and Dashami (vidyarambham). Other important days include Vinayaka chathurthi in Chinga Masam, Mandala kalam 41 days, Chingam 1, Thiruvonam day, prathishta dinam and Vishu.
