Kottathala Thanneerpanthal Devi Temple – Festival

Kottathala Thanneerpanthal Devi temple is located on Kottarakkara - Puthoor-Sasthamcotta at Kottathala in Kollam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Bhagavathi and Shiva. The Shivratri festival in Kumbha Masam (February – March) is the most important festival here.

Two different forms of Bhagavathy are worshipped in the temple. There are two chathura sreekovil in the temple with a fierce and benign form of Goddess Devi. The temple has a chuttambalam and namaskara mandapam.

Pongala ritual is held during the Shivratri period.

Huge effigies of ox – Kala are pulled to the temple on the occasion of the festival. Huge figures of character from Hindu scriptures, traditional performing temple art forms of Kerala and cultural activities are part of the festival.

The festival is also famous for melam, ezhunellippu, pujas and rituals including dhara  and homam. A huge fair is part of the festival
