Akalur Bhagavathi Temple – Akalurkavu – Festival

Akalur Bhagavathi temple is located at Akalur near Lakkidi Perur and Pathiripala in Palakkad district, Kerala. Akalurkavu is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy. The annual festival in the temple is held in Meena Masam. Prathishta dinam in the temple is also observed in Malayalam Meenam month.

This is a beautiful Kerala style temple with a chathura sreekovil. The temple has a kodimaram or flagpole, chuttambalam and shrines of upa devatas.

The annual festival in the temple is famous for Tholpavakoothu. More than a dozen elephants participate in the pooram festival. Kudamattam is held and along Panchavadyam. The annual festival is also famous for Kerala temple art forms, other melams, ezhunnallathu and colorful processions. Huge effigies and beautiful lighting are part of the annual festival.

The shrine also observes Navratri and Thrikarthika festivals.
