Airapuram Bhagavathy Temple – Kumbha Bharani Festival

Airapuram Bhagavathy temple is located at Irapuram in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy or Devi. The annual Kumbha Bharani festival (February or March) in Malayalam Kumbha masam is the most important utsavam in the temple.

This is a small typical Kerala style temple with a chathura sreekovil. There are shrines of upa devatas in the temple. The shrine has a namaskara mandapam and nalambalam.

The annual festival is held for three days on Revathi, Aswathy and Bharani. Para nirakkal is held on all days of the festival. Thookam koothu is the most important event during the annual festival and is held on the Bharani day. The thookam performed here include Otta thookam, Dharikan thookam and Garudan thookkam. Tholpavakoothu and Garudan payattu are part of the festival.

The temple observes the annual Pathamudayam and Navratri festival with Vidyarambham. Thrikarthika vilakku is another important occasion in the shrine.
