Adayalakkallu Devi Temple – Festival

Adayalakkallu Devi temple is located at Kochukamakshi near Erattayar in Idukki district, Kerala. This is a beautiful Hindu temple located atop a mountain surrounded by scenic location. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathy or Devi – sankalpam is that of Goddess Bhadrakali. Kumbha Bharani festival which falls in February or March is an important occasion in the temple.

There is a freestanding huge Shila – 15 feet tall and four feet wide with a thickness around 20 cm and stands in an erected position. This is believed to be a manifestation of Vana Durga.

A separate Kali temple known as Adayalakkallu Bhadrakali temple is located in front of the Shila.

The temple has a chuttambalam, kodimaram (flag pole) and nalambalam.

There is a water source near the temple which never goes dry.

Various Tantric pujas and rituals are part of the annual festival.
