Perumparamba Shiva Temple – Story – Festival

Perumparamba Shiva temple is located at Perumparamba near Edappal in Malappuram district, Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Shiva. Maha Shivratri in Kumbha Masam (February – March) is an important festival in the temple.

The Shivling worshipped in the temple is swayambhu – divine appearance. The temple also has a temple of Vishnu Bhagavan facing the Shivling. The sanctum sanctorum of Shiva faces west.

Legend has it that the temple was built by Shiva Bhuta Ganas in one night. The belief is that Shiva here is in a ferocious mood and Vishnu was consecrated to decrease the ferocity of Shiva.

The temple has a chathura sreekovil with a chuttambalam, namaskara mandapam and kodimaram.

Ramayana Masam, Thrikarthika and Mandala Pooja are held in the temple. Thiruvathira in Dhanu masam is an important day in the temple.
