Manuvaryaji Maharaj – Life History

An adept in Yoga and an activist, Manuvaryaji Maharaj was born in 1910 in Rupal, a village in north Gujarat. His father and mother were extremely religious. He inherited the knowledge and practice of Yoga from his maternal grandfather, Yogiraj Sri Madhav Maharaj, a well know yogi of his days in Gujarat.

Manuvaryaji Maharaj was sent to Mumbai for further studies in science but was keen on yoga sadhana. He remained much more engrossed in yogic practice than studies. He had numerous yogic realizations during his student life.

In 1936 CE, when he was twenty six, he came to Ahmedabad and took over the management of the Yoga Sadhana Ashram. He had his yogic sannyasa deeksha in the year 1945 CE from great Guru Avadhuta Yogiraj Sri Krishnatmji Maharaj at the bungalow of Sheth Sri Ambalal Sarabhai, a well known mill owner in Ahmedabad.

Manuvaryaji Maharaj  dedicated his life to the practice and propagation of Yoga. He was associated with several institutions, either started by him or by others. A few of them were –
