Kalkulam Shiva Temple Near Thiruvananthapuram

Kalkulam Shiva temple is located at Padmanabhapuram in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. The temple is also known as Neelakandeswarar Temple or Neelakanta Swamy Temple. Swathi Thirunal and Kunjan Nambiar have written about the greatness of the temple. On the eastern side of the temple there is a big gopuram. The temple is near Thiruvananthapuram.

The deity faces east. The temple is one among the 12 Shiva temples associated with Shivayalayottam on Shivratri day in South Kerala. This is the only Shiva temple among the 12 temples in which Shiva and Goddess Parvati is worshipped together.

Ganapathi is worshipped in between Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

The subsidiary deities worshipped in the temple are Chandikeshwara and Bhoothathan. Sasthavu is worshipped outside the compound. Adimoola Shiva is worshipped on the west side of the temple. A Ganapathy is worshipped outside the compound. In the Devi temple only Goddess Ananthavalli is worshipped.

The temple is open from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the morning and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the evening.
