Eruthavoor Sri Balasubramanya Swamy Temple Balaramapuram – Atop A Hill - Festival

Eruthavoor Sri Balasubramanya Swamy temple is located on the Balaramapuram-Ooruttambalam Road in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bala Subrahmanya Swamy the child form of Muruga or Subrahmanya. The shrine is located atop a hill and one has to climb around 242 steps to reach the shrine. The Thaipooyam kavadi festival (January – February) is the most famous festival in the temple.

The 10-day annual festival in the temple begins on Thaipooyam day.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapati, Goddess Parvati, Yogeshwaran, Navagrahas, Nagaraja and Naga Kanya. The shrine also has a murti of Muruga in six faces – Arumughan or Shanmughan.

Morning Darshan Timing is from 5:00 AM to 9:30 AM
Evening Darshan Timing is from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
The morning darshan time on Sunday is extended till 10:30 AM
The shrine is open till 2:00 PM on Fridays and Monthly Sashti Fasting days.

The shrine performs special pujas dedicated to the serpent deities on Ayilyam nakshatra day in all Malayalam months.

The important festivals observed in the temple are Thaipoosam, Vaikasi Visakam, Skanda Sashti and Thrikarthika.

The shrine houses a peacock the vehicle or vahana of Muruga.

Mundan or head shave of children is held in the temple. The temple is famous for this ritual.

Special rituals and pujas are held on Vishakam nakshatra day in Vaikasi month in the temple.
