Edatharikathu Kavu Bhagavathy Temple Guruvayoor

Edatharikathu Kavu Bhagavathy temple is located at Guruvayoor in Kerala. The temple is located at northeastern corner of the Guruvayoor temple on the bank of Rudratheertham. Edatharikathu Kavil Bhagavathy is worshipped as the upadevata or subsidiary deity in Guruvayoor temple. Edatharikathu Kavu Thalappoli festival is annually held on Dhanu 21 (January 5 or 6).

The sankalpam of Edatharikathu Kavu Bhagavathy is that of Vana Durga – forest goddess – and based on this belief there no roof covering the main sanctum sanctorum or sreekovil.

It is believed that Edatharikathu Kavil Bhagavathy shrine is older than the temple of Guruvayoorappan.

The temple has got a circumambulatory path or pradakshina vazhi. The main offering in the temple is Azhal. The temple has a Velichappadu or oracle.

The main festival in the temple is the Thalappoli festival which begins January 5. The thalam in the temple is taken by unmarried girls. There are two thalappoli in the temple in Dhanu masam (December – January) - one by the Thalappoli sangham and the other by the Guruvayoor Devaswom board. The last ten days of Mandala season are highly auspicious in the temple.
