Bharanikkavu Subramanya Swami Temple – Puthoor Iverkala

Iverkala Kizhakku Bharanikkavu Subramanya Swami temple is located near Puthoor in Kollam district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Muruga or Subrahmanya. The shrine is also known as Bharanikkavu Devi temple as the Goddess Bhagavathy worshipped in the temple is equally powerful as Subrahmanya.

A standing murti of Muruga is worshipped in the square sanctum sanctorum.

The Thaipooyam festival (January – February) is famous for caparisoned elephant, temple music, various types of Kavadis, Shoolam, and Kavadiyattam. The festival is one of the most colorful festivals in the region.

The temple also observes Sashti fasting in every Malayalam month – the sixth day after Karutha Vavu or Amavasya.

The other festivals observed in the temple include Skanda Sashti and Thrikarthika.
