During their exile period in the Mahabharata, the Pandavas reached the mighty Himalayas. They made their dwelling in the forest in the Himalayas. In spite of bad fortune, Yudhisthira continued with his prayers and worship. He never complained about his bad fortune neither did he blame God for it.
Draupadi wanted to know from Yudhishthira as to how he could love God after suffering so much of misery.
Yudhishthira answered:
Look at the Himalayas. They are breathtaking. I love them. They do not give be back anything. My nature is to love the grand and the beautiful therefore I love them.
Similarly, I love God. He is the source of all beauty, of all sublimity. He is the only One to be loved. My nature is to love Him.
I do not pray for anything. I do not ask for anything. Let him place me wherever He likes. I love Him for love’s sake.
Loving God without any expectation is true devotion and love.
