Sreekanteswara Temple At Kozhikode - Festival

Sreekanteswara Temple is located at the heart of Kozhikode town in Kerala. The Sreekanteswaram shrine is of significance in Kerala history as the murti here was consecrated by Sri Narayana Guru. The annual festival in the temple is held in Kumbha Masam with kodiyettam and coincides with Mahashivratri.

The construction for the temple started on kollavarsham 1083 Dhanu masam 12. The Shiva Linga pratishta was performed on kollavarsham 1085 Meda masam 28 Wednesday.

As per history the temple was to be named as Nalleeshwara temple but Sri Narayana Guru suggested the name Sreekanteswara Kshetram.

The upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Subrahmanya, Ganapathi, Dharmasastha, Vishnu, Bhagavathi and Navagrahas. 

Shivratri and Thaipooyam important festivals are observed here. Vinayaka Chaturthi in Chingam masam is also observed.

Monthly Sashti fasting attracts devotees. Monday is the most auspicious day here. Those observing the fortnightly Pradosh vrat also visit the temple on the occasion.

The annual pratishta festival in the temple is held in Malayalam Meda Masam (April - May).

The annual ilaneer vyappu and ilaneer attam festivals are held in Malayalam Edava Masam (May - June).
