Muchukunnu Kottayil Shiva Temple – Information – Facts – History

Muchukunnu Kottayil Shiva Temple is located at Muchukunnu in Moodadi, Kozhikode district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva and is located inside a 4 acre grove (kavu). The murti worshipped in the temple is known as Vathilkappavar.

The darshanam of Muchukunnu Kottayil Shiva temple is towards east. The Upa Devata worshipped in the temple is Naga.

The annual festival in the temple begins on Kumbham 25 (second week of March) with kodiyettam and ends on Meenam 1 (second week of March) with arattu. The festival observed here is known as Padahaadi.

The main offering in the temple is Chatushatham (paripalapayasam).

Vathilkappavar or Mahadeva Shiva was the seva murit of Pulikeezhu Yogam which was one of the 18 Chathiri Yogam of Panniyoor Kazhakam.

The temple belonged to Kodungallur Thamburakkanmar. Later it came under the control of Mangottu Nair.
