Morayur Shiva Temple – Facts – History

Morayur Shiva temple is located at Morayur in Malappuram district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Shiva and the pratishta here is that of Parashurama. The temple has two tier round sanctum sanctorum – vatta sreekovil.

The darshanam of Morayur Shiva is towards east. The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathi and Vettakkorumakan. There is also a Srichakra pratishta in the temple and is of Parashurama Sankalpam.

Murajapam is held in the temple from Vrischikam 1 to Vrischikam 12. The name of the temple and the region is Morayur because Murajapam is being performed here for centuries without a break.

As prehistory, the temple belonged to Mongandampulam Mooses who was a minister of Samoothiri. Currently the temple is managed by a committee formed by local people.
