Mavelikara Sree Krishna Swamy Temple – Facts – History - Festival

Mavelikara Sree Krishna Swamy temple is located at Mavelikara in Alappuzha district, Kerala. The shrine is dedicated to Bhagavan Sri Krishna. The main murti is four-armed Sri Krishna – Chatur Bahu.

The darshanam of Mavelikara Sree Krishna Swamy is towards east. The temple has a gold plated kodimaram – flag post.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathi and Shiva.

The 10-day annual festival in the temple ends with Arattu on Thiruvonam nakshatra in Meenam month. Ashtami Rohini in Chingam month is another important festival here. 

Large number of marriages are held in the temple.

As per history, the temple belonged to Madathumkoor Swaroopam, which ruled the region with Mavelikkara as capital. In 1731 CE, the last king of the swaroopam gave the temple and its properties to Marthanda Varma Maharaja of Travancore.

There is a huge lamp (sthamba vilakku) in front of the temple donated by soldiers of Travancore.
