Sree Mangode Bhagavathy Temple – Cherpulassery - Mangode Pooram 2024 Date

Sree Mangode Bhagavathy temple is located at Mangode on Cherpulassery – Palakkad road in Palakkad district, Kerala. The annual festival in the temple is famous as Mangode Pooram and in 2024 it is on March 23. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Devi. The popular belief is that this is one among the 108 Durga temples in Kerala. The shrine is known as Mangottur in Durga Nama Stotram Namavali.

The temple has a circular sanctum sanctorum – vatta sreekovil. The murti worshipped in the sreekovil is swayambhu. The darshanam of Sree Mangottu Kavu Bhagavathy is towards north.

The Upa Devata worshipped in the temple is Ganapathy.

The 7-day festival in the temple begins with kodiyettam on Punartham nakshatra in Meenam month. The important rituals and festivities during the annual Mangode Pooram includes Pana, Palakombu Ezhunellippu, Pooja, Thiri Uzhichil, Pana Pidutham and Guruthi. Kazhcha Seeveli, Panchavadyam, Thira, Poothan, Kuthira, pakal pooram, Kummatti, Angadi Kulathingal panchavadyam, ezhunnallathu along with Panchavadyam, Tantric pujas, Arattu, Chuttuvilakku,  niramala, kalampattu, thayambaka and Tholpavakoothu are part of the Mangode pooram. The four deshams that participate in the pooram festival are Mangottu, Chammanoor, Veeramangalam and Vellinezhi.

Bhadrakali kalam pattu by Kuruppanmaar is performed here. Koora is observed on the Vrishchikam 1 (November 16 or 17). Thalappoli is held on the first Friday after Mandala kalam.

The annual prathishta dinam is observed in Makaram month.

Kootu Payasam (sweet porridge) is the main prasadam here. 

The temple belonged to Olappamanna Mana and was later maintained by the Vaishya community.

Mangode pooram coincides with Arattu Pooram festival.
