Laloor Karthyayani Temple

Laloor Karthyayani temple is located at Laloor in Ayyanthol village in Kerala. The temple is one among the 108 Durga temples in Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple is Goddess Karthyayani.

The darshanam of Laloor Sree Karthyayani is towards east. The murti is with four arms – chaturbahu vigraham.

The temple participates in the world famous Thrissur Pooram. On the Thrissur pooram day after tantric puja, ezhunnallippu of Laloor Bhagavathy starts at 6:30 AM. The procession is accompanied by Nadhaswaram and Panchavadhyam with five elephants. The Ezhunnellippu reaches at Naduvilal of Swaraj round. During the course of time the number of elephants increases to nine. The melam procession moves to Sree Moolasthanam with Pandi Melam and ends at 10.30 A.M. Laloor Bhagavathy go inside the temple to pay respects to Vadakkumnathan and exit to Southern gopuram and returns to Laloor.

Night Pooram starts at 6:30 PM from the temple and the day time routine is repeated at night. The festival concludes on the next day with kodikkal pooram, kodikkuth and uthiram pattu.

The sreekovil or sanctum sanctorum of is noted for its intricate carvings. The shrine is also noted for its mural paintings.

There are no Upa Devatas in temple. The Valiya Balikkallu is nearly 8 feet high.

On the Thrikarthika day in Vrischikam month (November – December), the ezhinullippu (procession) with three elephants starts from the temple and goes to Ashtamangala Shiva temple of Karyattukara (2 km from Laloor) and returns before Deeparadhana to witness the Karthika Vilakku.

Another ezhunullippu is held on Shivratri day to Vadakkumnathan Temple.
