Mattom Narasimha Swamy Temple – Mavelikara

 Mattom Narasimha Swamy temple is located on the Harippad – Mavelikara road in Allappuzha district, Kerala. The main murti worshipped in the temple is four-armed Narasimha (Chaturbahu). The darshanam of Mattom Narasimha Swamy is towards east.

The temple has a circular sanctum sanctorum – vatta sreekovil. The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Shiva and Sri Krishna.

Attvishesham is observed on Vishu day.

The belief is that the murti was the Upasana murti of Odanadu kings. The temple is mentioned in Unnineeli Sandesham of 14th century. As per scholars the name mattom because the place might have been a place where barter system existed during ancient times. Vishumattam or exchange of goods on Vishu might have happened here.
