Karakkad Dharmasastha Temple – History - Festival - Gods Worshipped

Karakkad Dharmasastha temple is located at Karakkad on the Chengannur – Pandalam road in Alappuzha district, Kerala. The temple is one among the 108 Ayyappa temples in Kerala. The shrine is known as Karayattu Kavu in Thottam Pattu, which narrates about 108 Ayyappan Kavukal.

As per history, a Bhagavathi temple stood at the present location. But the shrine had become dilapidated and to save the temple Sastha which was the upasana murti of Valiya Thirumeni of Pazhoor Mana was installed in the temple.

The annual festival ends with arattu on Uthram nakshatra in Meenam month.

The original murti of Goddess Bhagavathi was installed under the Peepal tree in the northwest side of the temple.

The Sastha worshipped in the temple is along with Prabha amd Satyaka Prabhasatyaka samethanaya Sasthavu. The deity faces west.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Shivan, Balabhadra and Nagathan.
