Kamankulangara Sree Mahadeva Temple – History – Festival

Kamankulangara Sree Mahadeva temple is located at Shankaramangalam in Panmana Village in Kollam district, Kerala. The main deity worshipped in the temple is Shiva. There is also another Shiva temple outside the main temple and this is believed to the moolasthanam or the original spot.

The Shiva worshipped outside is believed to Aghoramurthy and the one worshipped inside the main sanctum sanctorum is Mrityunjaya Murti.

Kamankulangara Sree Mahadeva Temple – History

The Moola Kshetram or Moolasthanam belonged to Kumaramangalam Illam in Kottayam. It is said that Sankaran Thampi who was the Karyasthan of the Thiruvithamcore (Travancore) built a bigger temple near the Moolasthanam and attempted move the Shivling from Moola Kshetram to the new temple. But it was impossible to move the Shivling in the old temple. The new temple thus had a new pratishta of Mrityunjaya moorti.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Sasthavu and Nagaraja.

The most important festival held at Kamankulangara Sankaramangalam temple is Mahashivratri.
