Triputhari In Kerala Temples

Triputhari is an important harvest festival in many Kerala temples. The most famous Triputhari is held at the Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple. The ritual is observed in the Karkidakam month (July – August), which is also the last month in traditional Malayalam calendar followed in Kerala.

The newly harvested rice is used to cook the food for the deity in various temples during Triputhari.

At Guruvayoor Temple, nellari payasam is prepared using freshly harvested rice by the Tantri. Along with the nellari payasam Guruvayoorappan is offered various curries made using leaf, curd, pazham nurukku, unniappam, and Uppumanga. Only on Triputhari day, uppumanga is offered as naivedyam in Guruvayoor Temple.
