Edayattukavu Ganapathy Temple – Bala Ganapathi Temple At Mutholy

Edayattukavu Ganapathy temple is located at Mutholy village in Kottayam district, Kerala. The popular belief is that murti worshipped in the temple is Bala Ganapathi or Unni Ganapathy form of Ganesha.

The murti worshipped in the temple is swayambhu – of divine appearance and not man made. The deity faces east.

Edayattukavu Ganapathy Temple History

It is believed that the murti was accidentally discovered by tribal hunters when they were clearing the forest area for path. Their sword stuck a stone and blood started oozing from it. The presence of Ganapathy was thus discovered.

The temple was initially managed by Meenachil Karthakkanmar. Later it was maintained by Edayattu Varukappali Ilayathu.

Presently the temple is managed by the government.
