Story Of Daughter Of Shiva And Goddess Parvati - Aranyani

Most Hindus know only about the two sons of Shiva and Goddess Parvati – Ganesha and Kartikeya. But there are some scriptures which talk about Aranyani, who is a daughter of Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

When Shiva and Parvati were fighting against Andhakasura, they gave away their daughter Aranyani to Kalpavriksha. The divine tree was asked to keep her safe from all kinds of dangers. The divine couple also asked Kalpavriksha to bring their daughter up as Vanadevi, the Goddess of forests.

Kalpavriksha is the wish fulfilling tree in Hinduism. The tree is believed to have appeared during the samudra manthan or churning of ocean. Indra, the king of Devas, took it to Devaloka and planted it there.

Vanadevi is the Goddess of forests. She protects the trees, shrubs and all plants in the forests. She also looks after the animals residing in forests.

Please note here that Aranyani is a Vedic Goddess too and she is the Goddess of forests in Vedas.
