Raghunath Besha Of Jagannath In Chaitra Month In Puri Temple

Raghunath Besha is observed in the month of Chaitra (March-April) in the famous Puri Jagannath temple. In this Besha, Bhagavan Shree Jagannatha is dressed like Sri Rama and holds a bow and an arrow. Lakshman, Bharat, Satrughna, Hanuman and other figures made out of sholapith and wooden twigs are displayed on the Ratna Singhasana.

It is observed in remembrance of Sri Rama, who was born on the Shukla Paksha navami day in the Chaitra month. The besha thus coincides with Ramnavami festival.

This Besha has been discontinued since last hundred years. The Raghunath besha of the deities was last held in the year 1805.
