Kuttoor Sastha Temple In Vamanapuram – Festival

Kuttoor Sastha Temple is located at Kuttoor in Vamanapuram in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. The 8-day annual festival ends on Uthram nakshatra day in Meenam month with Arattu. The festival is also known as Kuttoor pooram.

On the Pallivetta day in the temple, when caparisoned elephant arrives with the Thidambu on the other bank of lake, Kaniyan offers olakkuda and eetta (a type of bamboo) to Sastha. It is believed that the temple got its other name name of Koladikavu from this ritual.

Now, in this ritual the main member of the temple committed carries the olakkuda and people carry eetta and the ritual is known as ‘Kuvakoladi.’

 The temple is mentioned in the Thottam Pattu and thus it is one among the 108 Ayyappa temples in Kerala. The temple is known as Koladikavu in Thottam Pattu.

The sreekovil of the temple is considerably big and it faces east. The main murti worshipped in the sanctum sanctorum is Sastha.

The Upa Devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathi and Nagas.
