Dhara In Naga Temples - Water Ritual In Hindu Snake Temples

Dhara is the pouring of Abhisheka water from Hindu snake temples on the body of the person suffering in life due to the anger of Nagas. The dhara is performed with water, milk, or tender coconut water. First dhara is offered to Nagaraja and Nagayakshi.

Those suffering from the wrath of nagas will be seated in front of the temple and the holy water or tirtha from the shrine will be poured on the person’s body. It is believed that the process cures bad luck and illnesses.

The offering will help in removing dullness, diseases and bad luck.

This ritual is widely performed in Naga Temples in Kerala.
