Ancient Hindus had a deep knowledge of Nakshatras or stars,
movements of moon and earth, changes of seasons and of time. Ancient sages
performed sacrifices and pujas during auspicious periods and they had good
knowledge about stars, planets and the sun.
When purnima or full moon day is associated with Chitra
Nakshatra, the month is called Chaitra.
Even today, Chitra Nakshatra will be present on the full
moon day in Chaitra month.
The name of Chaitra month is derived from Chitra Nakshatra.
