Thiruvanchikuzhi Mahadeva Temple - Shiva Temple In Panjal – Cave Temple On Bharathapuzha River

Thiruvanchikuzhi Mahadeva temple is located at Panjal Village (on Cheruthuruthy – Painkulam – Chelakkara road) in Thrissur district, Kerala. This is a cave temple and is located on the banks of Bharathapuzha River. The shrine is also known as Panjal Thiruvanchikuzhi Shiva temple. The temple observes the annual Karkidaka Vavu Bali rituals and Pitru Tarpanam. Hundreds of people arrive at the shrine and offer prayers and respects to departed ancestors in their family.

Shiva worshipped in the temple is Keeratamurti. The murti which faces east is swayambhu. Only one puja is held in the temple.

The Upa devatas worshipped in the temple are Ganapathy, Nagam and Ayyappan.

The sreekovil is located inside a rock. During peak monsoon season and heavy rains, water enters and covers the sreekovil. During the heavy rains, pujari sits atop the rock in padmasana posture and performs the puja.

The main festival observed in the temple is Shivratri.

This is one among the panchasnanaghatam (one of five holy ghat or bathing spot) on the banks of Bharathapuzha River.
